Teaching woodwork to the younger generations..
Founder - Sarah Odgers
I'm a mother of one. The decision to teach children woodwork resulted from my interactions with my son and my woodworking club.
My journey in woodwork started in November 2012, when through studying my Certificate III in Aged Care, I was tasked with an escort of an older gentleman to what was soon to become my woodworking club. I quickly became a member of the Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild
(The Woodies) in Montville.
As my abilities grew so, I was invited to teach newer members some skills, and my love for teaching blossomed from there.
Chip Off The Block Sanctuary
Founded on the 27th October 2020.
Target audience was firstly just small classes of 7-12 year olds wanting to learn basic wood working skills. It wasn't until 17th of April 2021 that I did a test run on some young people, with just basic hand tools. It was a great success, however as the need grew so did my classes.
On the 15th of May 2021 I hosted an open day, which was a huge unexpected turn out from local members of the Sunshine Coast. Featuring in Sunshine Valley Gazette, Chip Off The Block Sanctuary grew rapidly, all throughout the coronavirus pandemic we remained strong with enquiries. There is a definite need for Chip Off The Block Sanctuary, and if you are interested in being apart of it I urge you to reach out to the team. Just go for it!
